I haven’t posted recently. My usual random postings and the tech support series kinda came to a grinding halt. Up until now, I’ve not said why. So, here’s why.
I have a new job. I’d bore you with all the details of who, what, when, where, and why, but I’m posting from my iPod touch, and I don’t feel like boring you.
Anyway, you’re probably wondering why a new job would affect my ability to post. Well, that job is with Apple. Given that, there will be a lot more that I can’t talk about as opposed to what I can talk about. And quite frankly, I’m not going to jeapordize my job by blogging about it.
Therefore, until such time as I deem otherwise, MYM is going silent. I’ll still post about general life stuff and other geeky stuff over at my personal blog at mygeeklife.com, so check that out if you like.
As I write this, I realize how hard this is. MYM has existed since 2003, when I had the idea in the shower one morning. It’s been the record and sometimes the catalyst for my modding pursuits, and a decent chunk of my experience with wordpress. It’s been a constant, an adventure, and one of the ways I defined my little piece of the mac universe. But, one must pay heed to reality.
My deepest thanks to everyone who’s read, posted, commented, linked, loved, hated, flamed, apprecieated, and noticed my stuff.
Thanks to Tom Bridge, a true friend I’d have never made if not for mym.
My thanks to Macslash, who never hesitated to link to me and publish my stuff.
My thanks to Washington Apple Pi, who always put up with us at the yard sales.
My thanks to Macworld Magazine and Cyrus Farivar, who published the NecroMac.
Evan Keeling for 17 years of friendship, and all your invaluable help with the Necros, and Pimp My Mac. You, sir, rule.
Anthony, the Jacobs, and Mr. Whitlock of MacMod.com. Macmod, painted iBooks, and vampire dolphins. It’s all been more fun than I ever imagined. I never thought I’d do my own podcast series. Serious awesome.
Barb & Dave. You never really complained all that much about the garage, cause you loved what I was doing. It meant the world to me.
LeAnne. Yellow and white. Only for you.
Mikey-San. For naming it the pimpty-400.
And on that note, I encourage you all to check out the wordpress app for iPhone/iPod Touch. It really is awesome.
Thanks again,
John Hart

Breaking News!
Posted on July 10th, 2007 by phiber811, under Publicity, main.
This is fresh off the presses. A good friend of mine, who’s in the loop gave me the scoop. One of our favourite shareware developers, Freeverse, has ported the Marathon Trilogy to the Xbox 360!!!
Yes, you read it right. The original super awesome alien based first person shooter that came out first, on the Mac.
Marathon will be available for download through the Xbox Live marketplace, and has been redesigned with a new networking layer thats built for Xbox Live. Likewise, the controls have been redone, to support the 360′s controller. Even further, those wacky guys at Freeverse have also redrawn all the images in the game for HD.
Right now the release date is marked as “to be announced” so we’re waiting to find out when it’ll hit. We’re also without a price, but if I know Freeverse, it’ll be nicely affordable.
Other details, according to the Xbox website are that the game supports 1-4 players, co-op mode, multiplayer versus, System Link, Dolby 5.1 surround sound, custom soundtracks, 720P HD, teams, leaderboards, player stats, voice messaging, voice support, and is Live aware.
With all that in mind, this is not a cheap port. This is a fully featured rebuild with all the modern features that a console gamer could want. And considering its on the 360, it supports all the 360 features, leaving Xbox gamers with one hell of an awesome build of a truly classic game.
MYM will update with more details as they’re available, and will absolutely be purchasing as soon as possible.
Thank you to Freeverse for such an awesome treat!

MacWorld SF
Posted on January 5th, 2007 by phiber811, under John, Modding News, New Mods, Publicity, main.
Tuesday is the official kick off of MacWorld San Francisco. With Keynote A La Steve Jobs, it should be exciting. But this year, I’m excited about things other than the keynote. In particular, MacMod.com will have a booth there. Yes, I’m amazed too. Something thats been talked about for ages, and now its happening. With SF only a ten hour drive away (yes, only ten!) I’m totally making the trip.
At the MacMod booth, you’ll be afforded the opportunity to see both NecroMac’s, my custom painted Mac Mini, the handy-work I applied to a set of Speck Products’ MacBook Pro shells, a custom flamed Powerbook lid, and maybe a set of iMac G5 shells. At least, thats what I plan to bring. If all goes according to plan, you’ll get to see all the current episodes of the Pimp My Mac podcast, in rotation throughout the week. Class, can we say awesome?
I’ll be there through wednesday, so if you wanna say hi, look for the MacMod booth next to the gaming pavilion. We’ll be hard to miss, I’m sure. We’ll be the morons hawking MacMod.com, and the website in general. I may also hand out business cards from my shop, if I can get away with it. (they gave me time off, c’mon.)
There’s also this rumor about a silent auction for the Necro 2, so if you’re hot to trot to own a NecroMac, it’ll be there, and no, it wont be cheap. That level of customization is never cheap.
So, with that in mind, come to MacWorld SF! If you can make it, do so! If not, come here for the pictures. I plan to take my camera, and some of my collected mac shwag. I’m hoping to get Leander Khaney to sign my copy of Cult of Mac, if woz shows, I want him to sign my Lego PodBrix, and if the Jobs wanders by, I’m hoping to con him into signing my Jobs podbrix. Total nerd hero worship kinda stuff. Course, if I can get Jobs to wander by and start twitching violently when he sees what I do to his stuff, I’ll take that as a victory as well. I’m sure that all our customization, on a certain level, totally chaps his ass.
So yes, come to MacWorld! Then come to MYM for photos! I’ll be trying to post interesting updates while I’m there, but I dont know what the internet scene will be like. We’ll see. Vive Le San Francisco!

Macworld San Francisco.
Posted on December 28th, 2006 by phiber811, under John, Modding News, Publicity, main.
Its getting to be that time of year again. Macworld time. However, unlike many years past (pretty much all of them), I now live on the west coast. This means that I’m driving to MacWorld. Now, why did I rarely make the trip to NYC for MW there? 1. it was summer. 2. it was NYC. 3. I lived in Richmond VA, was poor, and couldnt afford the 5 hour drive. Now, I live in Portland, and am not poor. I’m gonna drive ten hours, from PDX, to San Francisco, attend macworld, and rock it. If you’re a MYM fan or a MacMod fan, you should keep an eye out while you’re there!
If you know me, or know of me, live in the PDX area, and want to go to MWSF, I’ll be driving down on the 7th, and coming back on the 10th. If you want a ride, you can email me at jhart (@) modyourmac dot com and let me know. I could use the company for sure. However, any passengers would be expected to cover their own expenses. Duh.
With that in mind, we’ve got ten days till said road trip. WOOO!

I’m proud to say that if you live in the pacific northwest, you have the opportunity to own a ModYourMac original! My shop, MacForce is now offering the option to have plastic housed machines painted. The options are for solid or two color jobs. No flames or complex stuff yet, but we’ll get there. So, get into MacForce, and either buy a machine, or bring yours in, and get it custom painted!
