I pleased to say that this weekend, an 8 foot square spray booth was built in the basement of my shop. Its all plastic and 2×4′s, but its more than enough. It’ll do everything I need. I’ve also ordered a ton of paint. Soon, I shall produce some test pieces for my employer, and the design side of my company. I cannot wait to paint.
Now, dont take this as MYM going corporate or anything. This is an alliance with my employer, so that I can have a space to work, and they can benefit from my painting. Mutual back scratching, if you will. I can already say that I’m pleased to have my own dedicated painting space. I can only hope they’re pleased with what I produce for them.
and, just so its said, WOO-HOO! I get to paint this week!
As soon as I start generating stuff thats for MYM and MacMod consumption, it’ll be posted here. Keep an eye out!

With the impending start to my painting insanity for the holiday season, I purchased a new airbrush. I picked up an Iwata Eclipse HP-BS series. As the derringer sized sniper rifle of my arsenal, it ought to do well. But I know what to expect with my airbrush. What I didnt expect was how awesome the manufacturer is.
I ordered online through a third party retailer. Apparently they send their order in to the manufacturer and then the product is drop-shipped. Well, Medea-Artool, the manufacturer, called me this morning. They wanted to know if I wanted to pick up my airbrush will-call.
Huh, what? I ordered it from a shop in St. Louis.
No, as providence would have it, Medea-Artool/Iwata is ONE BLOCK from my shop. Their office is literally a 2 minute walk from mine. They called when they realized that it would be dumb to ship my purchase, when I could just run over. So, I ran over. Literally.
While there, I chatted with the girl at the front (I’m sorry, I dont remember your name!) and another guy there who’s their tech person. They told me who to talk to at my local art store, in order to set up will call pickups, so I wouldnt have to pay shipping, and could get everything they sell. They also checked out the website. Most cool. They were super awesome people, and amazingly nice to let me run over and get my airbrush.
Thank you Iwata/Medea-Artool! you folks RULE! you will continue to get my business, without question. I was a loyal customer before, but this seals the deal.
So, if you need an airbrush, masking film, or stencils of any kind, you need to go to www.medea-artool.com and buy their stuff from your local dealer.

Attention All Painters!

I was up in Edgewood, MD this past weekend for a friend’s wedding. As always happens when on a roadtrip, you have to go to Wal-Mart. Its just the nature of things to do so. Anyway, while friends and I were wandering, I ducked over to Automotive. I love to see what garbage they have to offer those who want to touch up their cars. There was the usual crap, and then a very picked over shelf. What remained on this shelf nearly made me fall over. There were boxes emblazoned with the House of Kolor logo. Bases, Kandy’s, and Pearls. Clear Coats too! I thought I was dreaming. HoK is the name brand when it comes to custom auto paint. What in the name of all that’s holy is it doing in the Wal-Mart automotive aisle? I had to open the box. Sure enough, inside the several that I peeked in on, there were HoK aerosol cans. I was having trouble processing it. I had to stew on it over the weekend, and then resolve this mystery. So, I put the cans back in their boxes, and headed off to buy other, more essential things.
Upon arriving home, I promptly headed into the wired, in order to do a little checking. Lo and behold, I’ve found the answer. HoK (parent companied by Valspar, go figure) is offering a line of aerosols and traditional paint jars. Targeted at people making model kits, they offer base coats, about 33 colors in jars, as well as reducer (meaning they’d rather you airbrush than brush it on by hand) Beyond the potted paints, they offer 5 pearl colors in aerosol cans, as well as 5 kandy colors. Clear coat is of course in aerosol.
Now, for a paint nerd and a hobby level modder, what does all of this mean? It means that HoK products just got a lot more accessible. If you’re looking to paint your iBook, MacBook, what have you, you can order the base, color, and clear, then give your computer a true custom finish. You’ll be able to get true Kandy colors, real pearls, and skip the trip to the home depot when it comes to computer painting.
Currently, I’m willing to bet that the selection will be somewhat sporadic as will availability. It looks like the only place carrying this paint is Wal-Mart. However, if you go to the website, http://www.kustomkolorpaints.com , you can order directly from their online store. Without a doubt, this is something I’ll be doing this week.

As always, the intarweb yields that which we all seek. It just takes time to locate everything. Well, I have located that which I desire.
I am not a coffee drinker. As such, my primary sustenance comes out of a can or bottle. (Jolt, Bawls, cherry pepsi) The problem is that when one gets lost in what they’re doing, that tasty beverage can become room temperature, or become overly watered down with melted ice. But no longer!
Enter the USB Beverage Chiller. You plug it into an available USB port, and it keeps your beverage at 45 degrees. Granted, its not the 33 degrees I prefer my soda to be, but not everyone has room for a bucket of dry ice and alcohol to keep their bottles of soda in.
The beverage chiller is available at www.redenvelope.com
