white plastics get dirty.

Posted on June 28th, 2006 by phiber811, under John, main.

So, certain elements of the Mac Nerd News have been writing about the plastics on the white macbooks staining. Most recently, about how apple replaced one that was stained.

Let me address this.

There is no recall if your plastics are stained.

If you have hands, they’re probably dirty. If you have an ibook or a macbook, its probably white. Guess what rubs off your hands, and onto your computer? Thats right, all the oil from your hands. And guess what? White plastic stains. This is nothing new. It is merely the downside of a white computer.

If your macbook gets a stained topcase, clean it! or clean it before it has a chance to stain. My old ibook used to get dirty, so I used easy off citrus oven cleaner to keep it looking zippy.

I swear, its almost as bad as people not realizing that treating your ipod poorly will scratch the plastic, or driving your car outside will make it dirty.

MacBookPro Status, for the record.

Posted on June 23rd, 2006 by phiber811, under Publicity, Service Rants, main.

There’s been some hype in the Mac Nerd Media about Apple replacing MacBook Pro logic boards. Let me make the record clear. As of this posting, there is no recall. There is no REA(Repair Extension Agreement). There is no REP(Repair Extension Program).

All products get revised boards and slight tweaks within a model generation in order to fix issues, problems, and things the user never knows about. This is normal.

If your MacBook Pro has a severe heat issue, a whining issue, et al, run all the firmware updates, note whether it whines when the power is plugged in or not, and be realistic about your service expectations.

Apple will most likely NOT replace your machine the first time around. Accept this fact. You need to have logged three major repairs before apple will consider giving you a new machine. Please note that you are not special. You will not be the exception to this.

If you want to make an appointment, and wait in line, take your problems to the Apple retail stores. If you want your machine to get the best possible repair, locate a local Apple Authorized Service Provider. Places like TekServe in NYC, MacUpgrades in Bethesda MD, and so on. Trust your tech, let them do their job, and let them help you.

In the process, remember that while a hot powerbook or a whiny powerbook may be annoying, the machine still functions in its entirety. It technically isnt defective. Its just annoying. Like that guy on the subway who wont stop whistling.

Financial wisdom and the Ebay code of conduct. Or, why I hate deadbeat bidders.

Posted on June 12th, 2006 by phiber811, under John, Service Rants, main.

I would like to take a moment to say something about ebay.

When you bid on something, you are legally bound by ebay’s rules, to pay for it, if you win it. If you win an auction, you are contractually bound to pay for it. These are the rules as ebay states. I know, I checked, I’ve re-read them.

The winner of the Kandy Black iBook is a deadbeat. A gentleman going by the handle of “cartoonrick” sniped and won the auction at the last minute. I know this cause I have records of the auction, and I was watching. Not long after I sent him an invoice, he replied that he wouldnt be able to purchase the computer, since it didnt have a DVD-RW drive, and wasnt fast enough. He was very sorry, but sure i could resell it as it was very pretty.

Now, where in the ebay rules does it state that a buyer can pick and choose which won auctions he wants to pay for? It doesnt.

Mr. Cartoonrick of Excelsior Springs, Missouri seems to think that its okay to stiff me. Apparently my having to take the auction to dispute is okay. My having to spend a week waiting on the auction, then another two weeks to dispute, then another week or longer to resell the item is perfectly fine, and something I expect to do on a regular basis. No, costing me a month is perfectly acceptable, and a simple apology will cover it.

No. if you cannot or will not pay for what you win, you should not bid on it. You piss off other people. You cost us time, money, and you’re a pain in the ass!

Cartoonrick, I may not be able to force you to pay what you owe me. But I can send it to ebay arbitration. I can get back my listing fee, leave you negative feedback, and have one strike issued against your ebay account. You’ve made my month suck, and I will go through the appropriate channels to cover my losses. If it makes your day, week, or month suck, then we’re close to even. Dont visit my website, dont enjoy my hard work. Dont bid on my items, and dont expect any sympathy.

You’re a deadbeat bidder cartoonrick, plain and simple. I dont care what your excuse is.

Getting down to the wire.

Posted on June 7th, 2006 by phiber811, under Publicity, main.

As of Wednesday at 5PM, there’s about 30 hours left in those previously mentioned Ebay auctions. If you wanna get in on it, you should probably think about it sometime between now and tomorrow. Once these machines are sold, we wont sell the same paint jobs on Ebay ever again. That would lead one to think that they were rare, or something to that effect.

In any case, here’s the links to the auctions again. All the info regarding them is on your right, in the Ebay Auctions link. Now go spend you some money on ebay!!!
