An Open Letter

In January, I drove ten hours from Portland to San Francisco. My goal? MacWorld. I took both NecroMac’s with me. I accepted the stipulation in the Macworld contract, signed by Anthony and Jacob, that my work needed to stay on the show floor until the end of the show, despite my leaving early.
IDG World Expo puts on the MacWorld expo. Most of the logistical stuff is handled by GES Logistics. GES handles all the incoming product and all the outgoing product. You are required to use their shipping to get your merchandise back to your original location. Okay. Union bullshit, but whatever.
Long story short, I packed my Necro’s in big boxes with lots of padding, and made sure they were secure. I drove them to SF. They were on display for a week, and cared for by the other macmod guys. They were then shipped back via BAX Global Shipping through GES Logistics. When they arrived, I was super busy, and didnt unpack them. They were safe in their shipping containers. Several weeks later, I unpacked them. Necro 2 was fine. Necro 1, the left bottom rear corner was smashed to hell. The machine had obviously suffered impact damage. They’d destroyed it. I called the MacMod guys to initiate a claim.
Now, its more than 7 months later. I’d heard nothing in regard to this situation. So I asked and got info from the MacMod guys, who did file a claim. GES Logistics has no claim on file. Furthermore, when my stuff was shipped with BAX, I was bound to their terms and conditions regardless. Would you believe that their T&C state that they arent liable for hidden damages? They can destroy your stuff, and if you dont know it, they’re not at fault.
Someone broke my NecroMac. They thrashed it. A machine that had weeks of work and effort into it, that was one of a kind. Featured in multiple magazines, had been to 2 different macworld expos and had been shipped to California multiple times to be photographed, got smashed by a negligent shipping company who absolves themselves of liability, simply by claiming that if the damage is hidden, its isnt their fault.
At this point, there’s nothing I can do to claim against my destroyed computer.
Bax Global Shipping. Thank you. I hope your dog dies.
GES Logistics. Thank you, I hope you outlive your children.
MacWorld Expo. Yeah, you’re never shipping anything I own, ever again.
MacMod. You guys still rock, totally not your fault.
Someone owes me, big time.
