Greetings and welcome to the Tiki-Mac Project!
9/9/02Hey all! Well, response to the Tiki-Project has continued! We were linked on Leander Kahney's Cult of Mac blog on wired.com! That's probably what caused the site to initially go down. I made a point of emailing Leander and thanking him. I was psyched to be linked there :) But more importantly, while MacMod was down, I received several emails from both Jonathan and Jacob at MacMod, as to the status of their host screwing up bigtime, their hunt for new hosting, and the task of getting their data back. As of midnight 9/8-9/9 they're back up and things seem to be running functionally. So, points to them for recovering from what could have been a much larger disaster. Of course, with their site back up, I took the liberty of finally posting the Tiki Project to their Mod Challenge contest as was my original plan. As Jacob posted in the MacSlash forums, "You will have a chance to submit and participate in the contest." So I'm assuming my entry is valid despite the coverage. So head over to MacMod.com and check out the Great Mod Challenge, register a login with their site, and do your part to support not only their community but the mac modding community in general. In fact, when doing this supporting your community thing, head over to Tom Owad's site, AppleFritter.com, and my primary site, ModYourMac.com. You should all know and respect Tom Owad, as his site has been around for ages, and has long been the nexus of mac modding. 9/2/02Wow! Response to the Tiki-Project has been huge. My apologies for the slight overnight snafu. Our server appears to be back up and running with a minimum of fuss. So hopefully no more drop off's. Since we went up, we've been posted on MacSlash (thanks Ben! sorry I missed your call!), the guys over at TikiMac.com dropped a note to tell us how much they liked the machine, and chances are that we've been sublinked all over the place as is typical. So, this is a ton of innernet fun as always! Now for the particulars. If you want to email the builder, you want to talk to John. If you want the owner, talk to Tom. If you want your machine painted or modded, come to MacUpgrades in Bethesda, MD. If you want to see John's other work, head to ModYourMac.com. If you want tacos, well, that should be obvious by now. So, check stuff out, enjoy the Tiki-Mac, and if you feel like it, let us know what you think! John 8/31/04As of 10:20 PM Eastern, the MacMod.com website still does not exist. Over the course of the last month, I have dedicated copious amounts of time to the Tiki-Mac project with the support and faith of my friends and colleagues. To come so far, only to have the contest the computer was to be entered in vanish seems a waste of my work, and how positive everyone has been about the Tiki-Mac. Therefore, I've constructed this website to showcase the Tiki Mac even though MacMod.com is not up and running. It was my sincere hope to enter the computer in their contest and hopefully win something. But, more important than that is that my friends get to show off their custom creation, and that the rest of the Mac modding community gets to see it as well.
