Materials

A lot of material went into the Tiki-Mac I will try to be as complete as possible in remembering everything we used. Read on and enjoy!

alcohol

Much like the Captain's spirit below, this stuff is antiseptic. But drinking it will probably dryclean your stomach. Standard rubbing alcohol disolves the stuff that apple paints the G4 shells with. Soak in this, scrub lightly, and you'll be able to see through those side shells in no time!

auto air paint

The Auto Air line of paints are made and sold by Createx. These are water based automotive colors with a super heavy pigment content. The come ready to spray and are some of the best paints I've every gotten to work with. Did I mention that they clean up with water and have an amazingly low VOC content? If you want to shoot good colors, this is the place to be.

bamboo

Yes, I know. It sounds crazy to find bamboo at Wal-Mart. But I did. Other stores couldnt hook me up. The Mart had it. All hail the Mart!

place mats

I was hunting through the World Market when the palm placemat caught my attention. It was perfect. It had that jungle look I wanted, but reminded me of that giant wall in King Kong. It was destined to be part of a flat panel display. and it was cheap too!

wood paper

I found this wood textured paper at Plaza Art Supplies. I'm sure it was meant for fine arts and crafts, but it was too perfect for my plan. In person, its a gorgeous wood fiber. If you find it, get it, you will eventually find a use for it!

decal sheets

Water decal film is amazing stuff. Its what we've all used for the decals in model kits for years. However, this stuff is in full size sheets. Its the best stuff ever! You print to it with a laser printer (or color laser), cut out, soak, and apply. It allows you to put a photographic image on anything. This stuff rocks the party bigtime.

leis

Dude, nothing says tiki like leis. These were the nice silk jobby's from the local party store. Well worth every penny.

super 77

In the words of Elwood Blues, "This is glue...Strong stuff." And indeed it is. 3M's Super 77 will stick stuff back together like nobody's business. Stuff like airplanes, buildings, and planets. Do not under-estimate the power of Super 77.

balsa wood

I know, I know. Nobody needs to make any "wood" jokes. This is 1/32 inch thick balsa. Its super thin. people wrap model airplanes and such with it. It has such a loose fiber structure that when you get it wet, it bends almost like paper. Very awesome.

hula posters

With a project like this, it's all about the inspiration. We saw this poster and felt inspired. So, we bought it. yeah...

rum

Ever had a fruity polynesian drink? If you did, it probably had Rum in it. Its a stape in anything sold in a tiki head or with a tiny umbrella. The Captain's Private Stock is some seriously good rum. Arr!

neon tubes

It's neon, its bright. But this kind ripples like lava/water. Do I need to elaborate further?

poster paint markers

Sharpie is rocking my marker world. These markers come in different sized heads, and write with opaque poster paint. they dont bleed through paper, and they work like a charm. great for outlining and filling in.

stone spray paint

This is Rustoleum's stone finish paint. It sprays this spider webby crap out of the can, all over your chosen surface. Once dry, it has a stone like texture. Very cool.

Kenny Sasaki & The Tiki Boys

Kenny Sasaki has a very smooth groove. The Tiki Boys back him up. If you want some seriously cool lounge/tiki music that sets the groove like nothing else, you need to check out kenny. Amazon has him, as does the Itunes Music Store.
